Piano Lessons in Ashfield
I am a piano teacher based in Ashfield, in Sydney’s Inner West. I enjoy teaching children and adults, whether beginners or those returning to playing after some time away from the piano. (I also teach the Alexander Technique, which I’m happy to include in the lessons if students are interested.)
About my teaching
I have been a piano teacher since the early 1990’s, initially teaching in small groups in schools, then moving to one-to-one teaching. I’m comfortable teaching different styles of piano, including classical (with exam preparation if desired), jazz and contemporary. While most of my teaching is with children, I do enjoy teaching adults who have discovered a passion for music and wish to put this into practice. I can adjust the lessons to suit your musical tastes and abilities.
About my playing
I began playing piano professionally when 16 years old, playing for tap dancing and ballet classes in North Queensland where I grew up. I trained classically before branching out into different styles – especially jazz, rock and musical theatre. In the 1990’s I played in professional productions of Miss Saigon (Sydney, 1995-6) and Les Miserables (Asian Tour, 1996). I continue to play for ballet classes and exams, now mostly in the Sydney region. I also continues to play casually in various jazz bands in Sydney, including the Bridge City Jazz Band at Club Ashfield.

Alexander Technique and learning piano
For anyone interested, I have written a few articles on Alexander Technique related to learning piano, and music in general. I have taught the Alexander Technique since 2000 – studying it helped me to successfully return to the piano following playing-related injuries.
